Community Services

Takapuna Beach is home to a range of community services helping make the city one of the best places to live, work, and study in.

The Auckland Council located in The Strand houses the Devonport-Takapuna Local Board and offers a number of services such as payments for rates, fines, etc., copies of publications and reports, advice on licensing and permits, as well as property information viewing.

Further down The Strand is the Takapuna Library and the Community Services Building, which houses different agencies. The Citizens Advice Bureau offers free and confidential advice on virtually any issue. They also offer free Justice of the Peace services such as witnessing signatures and certifying documents at certain times of the week (contact 486-3139 for details). 

If you are a parent in need of help, head to Plunket and Parent Support to get the assistance and information that you need to ensure your children's wellbeing. In the same building is Age Concern which provides Accredited Visiting Services and Education and Health promotion programmes, as well as regular events for older visitors to enjoy. For youth, there is a range of different organisations and social clubs that they can join depending on their interests such as Get In 2 Life, Young New Zealand, and Girl Guiding North Shore. PHAB also provides weekly social activities and events for young people with disabilities.

On Lake Road is Work and Income to assist you in finding a career that best suits your skills and needs, while Child, Youth and Family is on Anzac Street, assisting families on different issues.

If you have young children, the Takapuna Playcentre, Takapuna Primary School, Angels Childcare and Tutoring, and Number Work n' Words provide different educational options depending on your child's needs.

Takapuna Beach is also home to a number of higher educational institutions.The North campus of Auckland University of Technology is on Akoranga Drive. In Takapuna itself you will find a number of private training establishments that offers a variety of courses ranging from English classes, Business Diploma courses, to IT studies such as Ames Academy, New Zealand Academic & Learning Institute, Duke Institute of Studies, New Zealand Institute of Education and, Avonmore Tertiary Institute.
